Main Purpose of the Role

Under the general direction of the Director of Fund Operations, the Head of Fund Operations – Debt will be responsible for the financial reporting, fund and account administration, capital raise support and collaboration with Portfolio Management and Asset Management for open-ended and closed-ended funds and separate investment accounts targeting debt strategies (“Debt Investment Vehicles”).

Responsibilities

  • Actively participate in the capital raise process, including debt fund formation, investor meetings, marketing materials, and due diligence requests
  • Engage with existing and prospective clients to address their routine and ad hoc operations and reporting needs
  • Establishment and on-going management of the Debt Investment Vehicles operating platform (i.e., operating policies and procedures, outsourced providers, technology platform, staffing, etc.)
  • Oversee the financial reporting (i.e., quarterly/annual reporting, annual business plans, transactions, cash management, draw requests, client/investor statement, client/investor specific reporting, etc.), as well as understanding and implementing policy relating to structuring, tax, accounting, performance, etc. of the Debt Investment Vehicles and the related investments
  • Oversee the Fund Administrator and debt operations team ensuring the accounting and financial, performance, and compliance reporting are completed in accordance with AEW’s Policies and Procedures
  • Participate in regular discussions with Portfolio Management, Director of Fund Operations, and Risk Management Committee about financial and performance results, balance sheet management (cash and leverage facilities), internal and external reporting needs, etc.
  • Establish and/or enhance AEW Policies and Procedures, as well as leading or participating in related technology and other firm-wide initiatives
  • Mentor, train, and develop members of the Finance and Fund Operations teams
  • Build and foster strong relationships with Finance, Portfolio Managers, Asset Managers, Debt Originations, Acquisitions, Investor Relations, and Legal & Compliance, as well as Investors, Servicers, Leverage Providers, Co-Lenders, Benchmark Providers, and Third-Party Audit/Tax and Fund Administrators

Skills/Experience Required

  • BS or MS in Accounting
  • Minimum of 2 to 3 year of public accounting, plus 10+ years of real estate and/or private equity preferred
  • CPA preferred
  • Excellent knowledge of accounting fundamentals
  • Excellent critical thinking and financial analysis skills
  • Excellent computer skills including MS Excel
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively and cooperatively as a team member
  • Ability to take direction and complete assigned work independently
  • Ability to work under deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to identify complex problems and provide/implement solutions
  • Experience with Yardi Voyager not required but a plus
