As a member of AEW’s Legal and Compliance team, the person in this role will assist AEW CRO and Compliance, Risk and Operations Committee in developing, implementing and maintaining AEW’s global enterprise risk management framework and governance program. They will work closely with the risk group at AEW’s parent company, Natixis Investment Management on operational and investment risk matters. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in developing and maintaining specific programmatic risk processes—for example, model governance and counterparty risk—and develop monitoring and reporting frameworks
  • Work with first-line business units, such as Investments, Acquisitions, Asset Management and Accounting, to develop second-line risk oversight processes
  • Prepare and present quantitative and qualitative operational risk assessments and reviews of current business processes and new strategic initiatives
  • Develop and monitor third party service provider oversight process
  • Assist the Legal & Compliance team with leading and executing internal audits
  • Monitor risk responses to key risk recommendations
  • Provide thought leadership on relevant risk management matters: identifying emerging risks, best practices for assessments/measurements and risk mitigation methods
  • Provide subject matter expertise on risk management issues, trends and best practices globally
  • Develop, draft and maintain policies, procedures and related documents
  • Assist in the identification, assessment and mitigation of risk inherent in real estate and in any of the firm’s products or services
  • Provide support to the Compliance, Risk and Operations Committee to include creation of meeting material, coordination with business units and the tracking of open items
  • Provide project management support to, and participate in, various projects and regulatory-driven initiatives that impact the business line to ensure that the appropriate risk mitigation is applied to business processes and operating arrangements
  • Stay current on matters relating to the foregoing

Skills & Competencies

  • Eight plus years of relevant experience in risk management, preferably from financial or professional services industry; demonstrated role in building a risk program
  • Working knowledge of real estate investment a plus
  • Robust project management and coordination skills and the ability to implement new processes across an organization
  • Strong knowledge of risk assessment methodologies
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently, but knows when to seek input from superiors
  • Exceptional client service skills, business acumen and professionalism
  • Excellent communications skills, capable of adapting messaging to various audiences clearly and succinctly; able to effectively communicate and influence across the enterprise
