2026 AEW Summer Intern Program

AEW is seeking current undergraduate juniors for its Summer 2026 Internship Program - an immersive 8–10 week rotational experience designed to provide exposure to all facets of the commercial real estate (CRE) industry, with a primary focus on Asset Management. The program culminates in a team-based case study presentation.

Each summer, AEW welcomes a class of approximately six interns. The program runs from late May to early August and includes the following components:

Week 1: Orientation & Onboarding

  • Human Resources Orientation
  • Compliance Overview – Introduction to AEW’s regulatory and compliance landscape
  • IT Orientation – Deep dive into tools such as Outlook, SharePoint, and Teams
  • Networking Strategy – Interns are encouraged to schedule weekly coffee/lunch meetings with AEW professionals. Guidance will be provided on conversation starters and networking tactics.
  • Corporate Etiquette – Best practices for professional behavior in a corporate setting
  • Learning & Development – Access to LinkedIn Learning and other technical training resources

Weeks 2 and Onwards: Weekly Programming & Sector Rotations

  • Introduction to Commercial Real Estate
  • Sector Group Assignment – Interns will be placed in one of AEW’s sector teams (e.g., multifamily, office, industrial, retail, senior housing)
  • Project Work – Interns will support their assigned teams with ad hoc projects, gaining exposure to asset management, underwriting, and acquisitions
  • Sector Deep Dives & Rotations– Interns will rotate weekly through different sector groups to gain a broad understanding of the commercial real estate landscape. Each sector week will include:
    1. Quantitative Training Sessions – Focused on the financial and operational metrics relevant to that sector
    2. Application Exposure – Hands-on experience with tools and platforms used by the sector team
    3. Property Tours – On-site visits to assets in various stages of the investment lifecycle
    4. Team Integration – Participation in meetings and shadowing opportunities to understand day-to-day responsibilities
  • AEW Academy Participation – Training in Excel, CoStar, and Argus
  • Mentorship Program – Each intern will be paired with an AEW mentor to support their development, facilitate networking, and provide guidance throughout the internship

Capstone: Case Study Presentation

Interns will collaborate in teams to prepare an investment memo for a potential acquisition. This includes:

  • Market analysis
  • Financial modeling
  • Strategic recommendations

Program Highlights

Throughout the summer, interns will engage with professionals across various AEW departments, including Asset Management, Acquisitions, Architecture & Engineering, Legal, Capital Markets, Investor Relations, Research, Insurance, and Accounting.
